I prepared by applying my makeup just right..layering and blending perfectly for just the effect I was looking for. It's like an optical illusion. I sprayed a light feathering of perfume. (Japanese Cherry Blossom) I made my wonderful Stouffer's enchiladas for the children and our most awesome babysitter. Then I headed out with the most handsome man I have ever seen. We listened to Joshua Radin as we talked...driving down the river road.
We are going to a party for a company that Corey has been working for this last week and a half. It was the end of a long/adventurous trip for a lot of people who came from Europe (France, Poland, Germany etc). They did ATV adventures, river runs, Jeep roaming, canyoneering and other things. Corey was a part of it.
We traveled along..us two married love birds..the sun is just getting ready to set and the lighting all around us on the mountains is breathtaking. We keep looking back over our shoulders to see the tinted clouds and lit up red rocks. Before we head to the party (which takes place at a ranch, which is also a movie set. I think it was the set of a Bill Murray movie where there is an elephant.)
Anyways.... where was I? Yes, before we go to the shindig..The Sexy Man wants to go park by the river. We stand looking out at the running water. We smell the fresh surroundings and feel the fresh cool air on our faces. THIS IS THE COLORADO RIVER! (Not the stinky Salt River) Corey goes back to the truck to fetch our light sweaters, but before he does he says "Watch across the water. I'll be right back." So I stare. I look at the glistening water. I wait. I am guessing that when Corey shuts the truck door, that maybe there will be a great rippling of water. Is this what he wants me to see? Hmmm. Finally... slam. "blupblupblupblupblupblupblupblupblupblupblup" What sounded like a thousand tiny pebbles and what looked like a thousand tiny pebbles filled the river. It was fish. The vibration startled them and they all blurped up near the surface at the same time. It was amazing. In the perfect stillness of dusk.
I hugged my love near the water's edge, grateful for our night out. This date is quite unlike any. We live in the most beautiful place. We get to feel the peace if we are still enough and paying attention. The rest of the evening was fun. We ate mexican food, danced to a very cool band who deemed out of some movie as the singer played a stand up bass, wore a black Frank Sinatra-type hat, and sang very jazz-like. Corey introduced me to those he had met. They had very neat accents that made them seem cultured. I wore a soft pink sweater that a few people touched and touched again because I was cozy. I held my date's hand and kissed him on occasion. When it was time to go, there were no lights to see our footing back to our vehicle. It was dark. I looked up, then held my breath. The stars. The shadows of the red rock mountains surrouding the base of them. The stillness. The darkest sky with the most amazing stars I have ever seen.
Thank you my love for this time with you. I was proud standing by your side. Thank you for the night under the heavens.
(Some very popular words used in this post are as follows: peace, stillness, mountains, river, perfect, and man) They all epitomize my husband. Perfect.
